Moving

Moving

Jobs and new opportunities often lead to moving and change. I should know because for half my life I have lived in 3 states and moved 4 times. Having to adjust to the new environment and culture around me.
In 1820 the industrial revolution started and millions of people moved to big cities like Chicago or New York to seek new jobs and opportunities to support their family.
This took a toll on not just the adults but kids moving from a rural areas to  big cities which was much more crowded. Because of the huge migration to big cities these cities did not have the most space for people to live in, so it was very crowded which often led to children and young adults getting sick. But that was only one of the problems. Some migrators coming to the the city had very little money so sometimes with child labor laws not being invented yet some children had to go to work. Mainly boys would have a paper route and maybe get a penny a  week or maybe less, and girls would have to help the mom take care of the house or maybe take care of a younger sibling. But the Industrial Revolution also gave hope to many adults and children being able to get jobs which were needed and get paid to support their family.
Whenever I move I always know that it is for the best, because I know that it is best for me and my family to continue our changing lives.

  1. Dear m-sway,
I enjoyed how you compared your personal history of moving around the US, with how hard it was years ago. I thought it was interesting how you said that it was very hard for people from rural towns and move to big cities like Chicago or New York. Why would the dense population create more sickness.

    1. Dear Graham,
The dense population created sickness because of the air tight space having to live near sewers and random people. When one person got sick the sickness would spread.

  2. Dear M-Sway,
I really enjoyed reading your post. I liked how it connected with both your life, and what you knew about life in the 1820s. Were you ever excited to move? Or would you want to move again?

    1. Dear Greta,
Moving gives me very mixed emotion about leaving my friends but I also know I have an opportunity to make new ones. I honestly would not like to move again but if I do I know it is for the best.

  6. Hi M-Sway,

This blog post is really interesting because it compared your life to the progress in moving. How many people migrated to get jobs at these tough times?

  7. Hi M-Sway,

I thought your blog post was really interesting. I especially like how you compared moving that you have experienced in your own life, to the moving that happened during the Industrial Revolution. Of the many places you have lived, what has been your favorite?

    Thanks,

I would say that my favorite place that I lived was New Jersey, because I had the most friends there and family.

  11. Dear M-Sway, I liked hearing about both your personal experience with moving and the information about the revolution. What would you say about how our modern technologies helps the process of moving?

  12. Hey Michael! I really liked hearing about the similarities of your own life and how you can relate to moving because of jobs. I wonder why children were working at a VERY low price, and not instead learning for a better future to be able to support their family? WHat are your thoughts about this?

I liked to hear your opinion about moving, and I liked it at the end where you said that it would be for the best. I have a question. Before you moved, did you think that the move was a bad idea or did you have the same mindset?

  15. Dear MSway,

I loved your post. I liked how you compared your experience to the industrial revolution. When you moved somewhere new, did you have to pay a toll like the people in the industrial revolution? If you did, what was it?

  17. M-Sway,

I really like how you talk about your life story, while comparing it to facts from the industrial revolution. It's really interesting how you state the pros and cons of moving. Do you wish you could stay at one place? Do you ever miss people when you leave a place and go to another? Why do you think you have to move so much? Why do you think the people in the industrial revolution had to move so much?

  27. To M-Sway
Aww man I feel bad for you! Moving seems so hard! I told my parents if we could move, and they replied to much work! And yet, you moved four times! Incredible!
Many people suffered through the in the unhygienic cramped spaces when migrating. Why do you think so many people moved during the Industrial Revolution?
    Great work!

  28. M-Sway,

Darn, I'm so sorry you had to move so much! If it helps, I had to move from New Mexico to Colorado to my final destination, here! My three times moving aren't any four time like you, but I still feel your pain! Were you upset or homesick when you moved?

    Good luck,

    -Flexi
