Travel, Now and Then

Traveling has been a part of my life since I was born. I've grown up traveling with my family all around the world. My first trip on a plane was when I was 8 months old and my parents took me to Maui, Hawaii. Traveling has given me the opportunity to explore many other cultures and has broadened my horizons. Travel has showed me the world in different ways. Travel made me dip my toe into the pool of possibility. Traveling to Istanbul, Turkey from London, England is about a 4 hour flight today, but back then it could take many many months. The airplane did not exist at the time, so main transportation was stagecoaches, horseback and boats. Now a days we have cars, planes and trains. Its about $300 dollars for a nonstop flight. Back then it costed a lot of money to get overseas. The ship ride was a long one, sailing along the coasts of France, Italy and Greece.
As the years went by, other modes of transportation were invented. The train came from the Wagonway. The Wagonway was exactly like the trains we have today except it was with horses drawing wagons on a track. The idea of using a “tracked” road is at least 2000 years old. Ancient Greece, Malta and the Roman Empire used cut stone tracks to haul loads pulled by animals. The airplane wasn't invented till 1903.
Many explorers used ships as main sources of transportation. Christopher Columbus had three ships, the Santa Maria, Pinta and Nina.

The Royal Navy, is the principal naval warfare service branch of the British Armed Forces. Tracing its origins back to the 16th century, it is the oldest service branch and is known as the Senior Service.  From the end of the 17th century until well into the 20th century it was the most powerful navy in the world, playing a key part in establishing the British Empire as the dominant world power. Due to this historical prominence, it is common, even among non-Britons, to refer to it as "The Royal Navy."
I have a dream to see all seven wonders of the world and to explore each continent. When I’m older I want to see everything, experience as much as I can and see the world in different ways. My next stop is South Africa and the islands off of Spain. After that I hope to see the Azov Sea and finally go to Tokyo, to explore not just hang out in the airport.
