To the right you can see the slogan for the 2016 MacBook. Again, note the period between light and years ahead. While the light part may be true, the years ahead is extremely misleading. If you have been using Apple's products you may think that this is true, because you have been mislead. While yes, the light part of this is true as I said before and is quite innovative for the people who travel a lot, it is pretty much the only option for these people and it costs $1299-$1599. While you could argue for portability, it becomes immediately immediate that this computer is not years ahead, at all.Now for part 2 of our deseeding of Apple, specs. Yes, I am going there. First, the continuation of the MacBook. Please note; for the specs of the MacBook the specs are coming directly from the Apple website (click here to see the proof) and is the $1599 version. First off, no graphics card. No, graphics cards are not just for nerdy video games. If you want to learn more about computer with video games, check out Max's blog post. Video editing is relied heavily on graphics power. Apple offers an excellent form of video editing called Final Cut Pro but, can it really be used to the fullest when the processor is the one doing all the work? Short answer, no. People build graphics intensive computers, just to get the video editing done. Adobe's Premier and After Affects are just a few examples of these programs that are graphics intensive. While Final Cut Pro may be an excellent program, it is an Apple exclusive and if you really want to put it to good use, you may have to buy an even more expensive Apple computer (Mac Pro). While we are still on the topic of specifications, customization is huge and is totally pro-consumer. An average consumer may think that buying a product is just that, buying a product. The well informed consumer knows that you have to look into the long term. Apple tries to focus on the demographic of non-informed average consumers. While someone may say that building a computer is something for gamers or video editors, you could build a fast computer, with a graphics card and a headphone jack, for about $400-500 and get quite a bit of life out of it. Once the computer starts slowing down, go ahead and upgrade. Well, what if one does not know how to build a computer. Two words for those people, the internet. Doing some research and asking people for help will help a lot. For my last point, innovation. Apple used to be innovation. The iPhone revolutionized the way one uses a cellular device. The Apple I was one of the first computers that was accessible to a wider demographic. Even the iBook introduced the idea of bringing a desktop on the go. Then, it stopped. We got minor upgrades and some degrades with yearly releases. The iPhones began to release half-baked models of each others in the form of the, "S" models.

An excellent example of a lack of innovation is the new MacBook Pro. Apple released two versions of the new MacBook Pro. One, was just a rehash of the previous model but with USB type C (that is a discussion for a whole different day) and one had a brand new touch sensor on it. Without diving too deep into it, the USB type C fiasco is absolutely ridiculous. You give me a touch bar to play around with, and you remove normal USB types? This is an example where Apple hypes stuff up like alchemy. For those who do not know what alchemy was, it was a myth of sorts that was aimed to make everyday objects into gold. What I mean when I say this is that Apple says that something else is the future, and does something flat out bad with it. The USB C idea is pretty bad, but not nearly as revolting as something else. Something that most saw coming from a mile away, the lack of a headphone jack on the iPhone 7. In today's day and age iPhone's are some of the biggest products that Apple has released. Apple, this is the one time where you sold worse in sales than the previous year. This is without a doubt because of the lack of a headphone jack. Apple tried to make up for this by giving us new colors such as Jet and Matte Black, but the damage has been done. Apple, I hope you learned your lesson with that. This concludes my blog post. Apple is the modern day equivalent to alchemy, promising something, and never delivering to its full potential. Promising gold, but never able to create it. Looks like people liked the headphone jack, eh Apple? Apple is the modern day equivalent to alchemy. They say every year that they will create the best product on the market, but are never actually able to. Alchemy had the same thing, promising gold from simple objects and while that is a cool idea, you would have to change the entire molecular structure. Who knows what is to come with the next iPhone. Maybe, they will put back the headphone jack? Probably not. Slow clap Apple, you just earned it.

This is a very interesting post and something that I have definitely thought a lot about. Next time I think about buying a new Apple product I will make sure to keep your thoughts in mind! ;)
ReplyDeleteCamy,
ReplyDeleteWhat an intriguing article! I love the topic, and will definitely keep your post in mind before purchasing any more apple merchandise! It seems all electronic businesses are unethical and money hungry these days, with console gaming and such, a complete rip off and waste of money. Do you own any apple devices you regret purchasing?
Best,
-Flexi
Camyee,
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading your article, I loved your bravery in discussing this controversial topic, that many other people on the internet wouldn't dare cross paths with, solely because of the negativity from the Apple "fanboys" that usually attack people that criticize anti-consumerist companies. I enjoyed the mix between supporting evidence, and personal opinions. My favourite parts were the sarcastic, witty, insightful commentaries. I adored the third to last line, "Maybe, they will put back the headphone jack? That's just the type of thing that differentiates your blog from others of the same type.
Dear Camy,
ReplyDeleteWow! Your post was about a very fascinating (as well as devious) topic! I never thought about Apple using word plays or other tricks to lure us into their products! I'm interested to know how does Apple maintain it's well known reputation, with note of these sly acts?

Camy,
ReplyDeleteWow this is a scary topic you are talking about! Thank you for bringing awareness! Sometimes businesses are getting very unethical and constantly tricking consumers. Have you ever been scammed?
Nice work!

Camy,
ReplyDeleteThat was an amazing blog post! I loved it! I had no idea that such a big business could scam us! I loved your wit and humor throughout the article, and all the details you put in. I'm curious to know how Apple stays in business, or maintains such a good reputation even with all the scams. once again, great job!

Camy,
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting topic! I had no idea that just one period on an ad can change a person's mind on buying a computer! Besides Apple, are there other tech companies out there that are scamming us as well?

Hey Camy,
ReplyDeleteI rarely read a post that I can completely relate to! This is one of those rare times! In my opinion, the Macbook (the thin one) is the worst computer in Apple history. (maybe a little harsh, but hear me out.) The first thing is the sorry excuse for a processor. Many smartphones (the Google Pixel for example) are twice as fast as that computer! On a laptop that thin, I don’t have anything against the USB-C port, but all the dongles that are needed to actually do anything are annoying. As you said, video editing just doesn't work. I had the opportunity to try out iMovie on the most expensive model, and scrubbing through video felt like I was dealing with strips of film. It would stop, start, and skip parts of the video at random times. If anyone likes really thin laptops, I would suggust the HP Spectre: http://store.hp.com/us/en/cv/hpspectre or the Dell XPS 13: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/xps-13-9360-laptop/pd Both are faster than the Macbook, very thin, and you don’t have to deal with a company scamming you. I apologise in advance for anyone who likes Apple. This is just my opinion. :)

Dear Camyeee,
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel man! I am saving up for a PC and my mac can't even run Firewatch on low settings. I feel annoyed that they make them so expensive and market them so well that they sell better than PCs. You were brave in taking on such a controversial topic. We are all now that much more informed, and I thank you for that. Do you find that other companies use their popularity to scam you?
Dear Camy,
ReplyDeleteI feel the same, that apple is just scamming everyone. I think that all apple does is churn out the exact same stuff as everyone else, but they just hype it all up. For example the iphone, is always barely different, it always just has a slightly nicer camera. I really liked this post because you weren't afraid to talk about something everyone knows but no one says it. Do you think apple will ever release a iphone or laptop that actually is different.

Dear Camy,
ReplyDeleteI have the same feeling talking to so many people like you! I am thinking of looking for a windows laptop going into high school, and i was wondering, do you think for a gamer a windows computer is worth it based solely based on the fact that it can run twice as many games?
-JT (from a bootcamped mac)
Hey Camy,
ReplyDeleteCool blog post! Most of the technology I use is made by Apple, and this has changed my view of the company. I feel like windows makes better computers, but many people and drawn to Apple just because their products look nicer. Do you think any other companies scam you in a similar way that you say Apple does?
Thanks,
XC Runner
Dear Camy,
ReplyDeleteThis is a really informative post! I love the pictures and how helpful the writing explains them. I may not agree that iphones are a scam, but I agree that the expensive macbooks certainly are. Do you own any apple devices?
Dear Camy,
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I have ever seen a more correct blog post. Apple is probably the most money hungry company ever. I have a laptop (asus ROG SWIFT) and it was about a thousand dollars and can run anything (that is compatible) either 2 time or 3 times faster then a top end mac. Also, right now the iPhone 10 is out and they have no headphone jack. Apple is not good.
