How video games influence our social life and culture.

Video games, we all know what they are, you probably have played them once before.  Right now I will discuss my options on how they affect us in good ways, and in bad in our social life and culture.
Many people regard video games as a new impressive technology, but 26% of adults think that most video games are a waste of time (according to pewresearch.org).  Many adults dislike video games and gamers because most of them when they were born they were not exposed to such a high amount of screen usage.  My parents and many other parents who have kids at my school, did not grow up with video games in their lives.  Video games are now getting increasingly more violent and I think a lot of parents are opposed to having their kids play shoot ‘em up games. Even if video games get less violent parents would still prefer that their kids spend more time away from the screen.
155 million americans play video games regularly (this statistic was found on bigfish.com, and includes mobile games) this means 3 to 4 hours each week.  This shows that video games are becoming more and more popular in the world, with the Call Of Duty franchise’s net worth at over 3 billion dollars in 2009.  Many people love video games and even enjoy watching others play them in “let's play” videos, these are videos where you watch someone else play a video game.
Many people have heard of mass shootings or issues of violence in our country, and many try to link those to violent video games.  Also people say that video games glamorize guns, weapons, and killing.  I believe that a mere simulation could not drive someone to take someone else's life.  All though video games can be linked to aggression and being anti-social.  For example when you go play a video game like CS:go or call of duty, a game with a voice chat.  You will notice that people usually yell rude words and curse at you.  I think this is linked to using screens a lot.  Also there are some gamers who are very polite and don’t get mad at people.  Even though many parents and adults dislike video games, the industry is continuing to grow.

  1. Hey Bobby,
I loved that you talked about what you love, but also talked about the issues of gaming. You weren't afraid to say the truth. I also love video games too. Do you think as time goes on, adults will grow to enjoy gaming just as much?

    Best wishes,
    LD

  2. Hello DerpBoy,
Thanks for the good comment. I don't know how much adults will enjoy video games, but I know that they will try to adapt to the growing culture of video games.
    Thank you,Bobbyblogman

  3. Bobbyblogman,

I love how this blog post expresses a common problem in our world today in a creative manner! I love video games, but I also agree that they are becoming increasingly violent. I feel as long as we stay away from the ones that teach us to steal cars and shoot people, and as long as we limit the use of them, video games are a great way to stay entertained and interact with friends and other people! Is that Loca the Pug in the picture under the one of a gun being pointed at two people? I love Loca!

    Game on,

  4. Thank you flexi_ally_kat,
I agree that we should limit your video games to more positive ones instead of violent games. I do not know if that is Loca.

    Thanks, Bobbyblogman.

  5. To bobblyblogman,

Wow, 155 million people play videogames regularly! I never knew the numbers where that high! It's kind of scary that videogames influence who you are as a person. Thanks for writing this!
When you play videogames, do you ever think about these different points you laid out in this article impacting your social life?

  6. Bobbyblogman,

I thought your blog was very interesting! I knew that a lot of people play video games but I never would've thought that nearly half of America plays video games each day! Do you think that video games are good or bad, when played in moderation?

  7. Hi Bobbyblogman,
I found this post very interesting! I love how you share how so many people play video games regularly and how video games have been linked to aggression and cursing. Do you think positive video games are becoming more popular, or do you think first person shooters will own the industry?

  8. Bobbyblogman,
Thank you for the interesting post! I did not know that only 26% of adults thought that video games are a waste of time! I thought it would be way more! I was wondering, do you think that video games are a waste of time?

  9. Bobbyblogman,

Nice job! Video games are definetly influencing many people. I think people are forgetting that life is not a game, and you definetley have ten lives and a spawn point. You can't exatly do what you want in life, unlike some video games. This was really great, and the video very much connected to the blog post. Do you play video games? If so, what video games do you mainly play?

  13. Bobbyblogman,
I like the use of statistics to prove your point. What do you think about nonviolent games that force the user to solve problems do you think these games have different or the same affects on players as FPS (First Person Shooter) games.

  14. Dear Bobbyblogman,
you did a excellent job at proving your point on both the negative and positive sides! Hmm, reading both video game posts I was considering the effects on society and I am wondering how the effects would differ with more or less variety in games?

  15. Hey, Bobbyblogman!

You did a great job pulling evidence from both perspectives - the mark of a good arguer! ;~) How do you think video games will evolve, and with that their effect on the gamers? How do you think VR affects gamers differently than .io games, for example, if so?

    Thanks for the lovely post!

  16. Bobbyblogman,

What an excellent blog post! Not only did you prove your points with sources, you made sure to make it interesting and a blast to read. I was surprised that only 26% of adults dislike video games, that was really interesting to me! When do you think the spike of violent video games' popularity started?

    Keep up the Excellent Work,
    Camy
