Best Sport Ever!

The Best Sport Ever Lacrosse!

Lacrosse, have you heard of it? If you're thinking of the sport with baskets mounted on a pole and you try to score a ball in the net goal thing. Then you're right! That's basically what it is. But there are many verity so between the ways genders and countries play it. I love the sport because of many things such as its a team sport and you get to throw a ball. I lost love how it is played.
What is lacrosse you know it's a sport with a basket on a pole and you try to shoot goals with a ball, but what else is there to it. Girls lacrosse is a graceful sport of stick skills, speed, and agility. Here is a clip of a middle school girls game http://youtu.be/JYLKmw6WxCA. In the video it shows you some of the game and what there is to it. This is not my game.
Boys                                Girls                                                    Both
Boys and girls lacrosse are not the same game. Boy lacrosse they wear helmets, mouth guards, and shoulder and upper body pads. Whereas in the girls game there is only mouth guard and goggles that look like the ones above. There is one more part of the gear that is different that is the sticks the girls have medium length stick that go about up to the waste and that have shallow or not very deep pockets, whereas the boys have deep pockets and varying sticks from the position you play, defence long sticks, offence or attack short sticks, and midfield middle sized sticks. You know the gear is different but what you did not know was that the game is played differently too. To start the game the girls start in a draw which is when the ball is placed between the backs of two sticks and is held there until the whistle is blown and then the ball gets popped in the air and everyone tries to catch it in there sticks. The boys don’t start with a draw though they start with a face of which is the same as a face-off in hockey. The reason all the boys were all that padding is also because they do a lot more checking which is in simple terms hitting others stick and body. Here are some girls rules http://www.playsportstv.com/girls-lacrosse/articles/1921/10-important-girls%E2%80%99-lacrosse-rules-for-beginners

My sport is the girls game. I love the skill and grace needed and not the rough and toughness of the boys game. To me the girls game is the better one because it is not about how hard you hit but about your mind skills and you thinking fast not waking fast. Even if I was to where all that padding I would still be scared of getting whacked by a stick or whacking others. Like with many other sports though skill does not come from anywhere it comes from practice. In my lacrosse practices we are play 3v2s and passing with friends and also just practicing little tricks to ourselves. After a few days or so of practicing we have a game or a tournament. In the games we prove we can be great and play hard. Winning is really fun and awesome but it does not happen all the time so when we do win we glory in it and when we don’t we try harder to win the next one.

  1. Hi Kristin,
I used to watch my brother's lacrosse games and have always thought about playing lacrosse, but was intimidated by the whole idea of it. Your blog post definately clarified many things about the game that I was confused about. Do you think that it is good that the girl's games and the boy's games are so different? Why did they make them different in the first place?
    Thanks!

    1. Kelly I do think that it is good that the girls game and the boys game are different because I am not the type of person who wants to get hit with a stick, you could say I am even scared of it, and it makes it much easier for me as a player to not have to worry about being hit with a stick. Ps. You should really try it its a great sport and it is tones of fun.

  2. Hi Kristen,
I've been interested in trying lacrosse for awhile, but I'm too busy with other sports. Reading your post has me even more interested in trying lacrosse. I knew the boys and girls game were different I just had no idea how drastic some of the differences are. Is lacrosse generally a fairly high scoring game? are he scores of games more similar to hockey or basketball?
    Great Post!

My cousin plays lacrosse and I have never really understood how it worked. I liked how your blog post explained that and had your point of view on lacrosse. My question is what are some other ways to play lacrosse?
    Keep playing,

  5. Dear Kristin,
I enjoyed reading about your lacrosse experience! It's cool that there are differences between girls and boys lacrosse, and I can relate that if I did play lacrosse, I would prefer something more graceful too. How long have you played girls lacrosse for? Great job!
    Sincerely,
    Rachel Y.

  8. Dear Kristen,
Excellent blog post! I loved how informative this was, and how descriptive you were at describing the sport. Especially for me, considering I didn't even know lacrosse existed until I came to Catlin. I learned some new facts. My question to you is do you feel that it's unfair that there is such a difference between girls and boys lacrosse?

  9. Kristin,
Your post makes me think about what it is to be playing a sport a little differently. I rock climb and as far as I know there are no differences between male and female rules in the sport. Question: How many sports do you think have these differences between male and female players?

    Good Post!

  12. Kristen,
Great job on your job post! I liked how you showed the difference between the girls and boys lacrosse. I also, liked how you had the links to the different videos. If the rules are so different for each gender, why are they both called lacrosse?

  13. Dear Kristin,

I like how you wrote about what lacrosse means to you, not just facts about it. I liked how you compared the boy's game to the girl's game. I did't know they were so different. Do you think that some of the differences between the two games are unfair or unnecessary?

I love how you mentioned the differences between boys and girls Lacrosse! I'v always believed it was a boy sport, because so many boys in our grade play it! But actually, it's for both genders. Additionally, the videos where a nice finishing touch! Did boys Lacrosse come first before girls?
      Great writing!
