I have always been a girl who loves fashion, shoes, and hair and I haven't
been hiding it. I used to run around in tutus and sneak into my moms closet
to try her shoes on. Growing up with two older brothers though, has changed
me tons. I still love fashion and hair, but I've become so competetive,
that everything has some type of happy balance. I'm basically the
definition of the best of both worlds. Keeping that in mind, let's continue
on. I remember being about 5 and my two older brothers were best friends. I
would look out my window and see my two older brothers playing soccer and
shooting goals on each other. I had just got these new gorgeous gold
earrings, and I loved them so much, however I really wanted to hangout with
my brothers. I walked outside and asked my brothers if I could play with
them, and they hastily said: “yes, but you’re in goal.” Let me just tell
you, my brothers are legitimate soccer players. Imagine a little curly
headed girl, wearing a pink dress with flowers on it, standing in a soccer
goal with two huge middle schoolers kicking soccer balls at her and just
like you'd imagine, it didn't go too well. Eventually, my brother kicked a
soccer ball at my head, causing one of my beautiful new earrings to fall
into the grass. I searched for hours, with no help from my brothers at all,
and never found them. Don’t get me wrong, I love having older brothers. I
know they are always there to help me, but sometimes I wish I had a sister.
How my brothers shaped who I am today.
I also happen to be the youngest sibling, and hear nonstop from my brothers
“you got this before me,” or “you have everything so easy because you’re
the youngest.” Right now, my brothers are both in high school, while I’m in
middle school. I miss out on tons of family movie sessions, because “the
movie’s too mature for me.” It’s kind of hard for me still to feel like I’m
not part of the family because I miss out on stuff because I’m too young to
do something. As I’ve gotten older, it’s become easier for me to fit in.
One of my brothers is going to college soon, so lately it’s been easier
because it’s all sinking in for him that he’s leaving in less than 6
months. Being a younger sister is hard, but it’s ok because I’ve learned
how to get the most out of it, and right now, it’s ok. I love my brothers
so much, and I think I’ve really become a better person because of being
the youngest. For me, having older brothers made me the tough girl I am
today. Without them constantly pulling my curly hair, I never would’ve
learned to be fiesty and fight back. I’m a super competitive person, but I
also love to go shopping and sleep all day. My brothers have made me the
fiesty, lazy, insane, girly, and loving person I am today.
HI DancingTutlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI really in hearing the aspect of someone will two older sibling. As for me I have one older sister and I could relate on how sometimes I feel like I want a sibling of the other gender. One question I have is; what is your least favorite thing about having two older brothers and what is your favorite?
Hi Socks,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading! I always felt like I became more mature by . being a little sister, and I honestly always loved annoying them. As you read, I also loved how my older brothers made me tougher because they never "babied" me. This also connects to your next question however, because them not babying me a lot of the time felt like they were being mean to me. I hope this helps you understand what brothers are like! It's definitely a long ride, but it's worth it:).
Sincerely,
DancingTurtlesOnMars
Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved to hear about another person's experience with older brothers. While you have two older brothers, I only have one. I completely agree with your statement about how you are glad that your brothers didn't "baby" you. For my whole life I have lived with older cousins and an older brother that, at times, made me feel left out, because of the huge age gap. One question I have for you is; if you had an older sisters instead of brothers, how do you think it would have changed who you are today?
Sincerely,
Purplesealsonpluto
Hi Purplesealsonpluto,
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed my topic! In some ways I think having older sisters would be similar, and in some ways I honestly don't know. From my friend's experience, sisters can be much more nice, but they can also be very tough to have. I feel like I would still be a tough person now, but maybe in a different way. I think sisters would be more "mean" about my outfits, because they would know female clothes, and probably more appearance based mean. Quite honestly, I am very much in the dark with older sisters, but I think I might be a little less hands on tough.
Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI thought this post was so cute and true. I can relate to being the youngest and having to try and get the bet out of everything. Being told I was too young for some movies and activities was always hard. You wrote everything perfectly and really made me picture you and your siblings together. Do you think that if you had two sisters instead you would become a completely different person? And would you rather have two sisters? Great post! I enjoyed it so much
Sincerely,
CHICKENNUGGET
Hi CHICKENNUGGET!
ReplyDeleteFor me, it was much harder to have brothers when I was little. I think part of it was me not really understanding them and how their brains worked, but also me being so young and so emotionally fragile made it a lot harder for me to have my older brothers. Now, I think I prefer my brothers, but if anyone wants to be my sister for a day they're welcome! I'd love to experience a sister, but I think as is with all siblings, everyone loves their siblings (even though everyone wants everyone else's.) Thank you so much for reading and for the questions!!
Sincerely,
DancingTurtlesOnMars
Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog so much because I can really relate. I only have one brother but I am still the youngest and I don't have a sister. For me it's not like I have been left out of the family or anything but I have kind of been left out of hanging out with the guys in my family. I play sports and I like talking about them and yeah I like all that "girly" stuff as well but I always find that my uncles, cousins, brother and dad always get to go to sports games and I am not invited because they assume I would rather be painting my nails or shopping and giggling with my friends, NO! Has stuff like that happened to you?
Sincerely,
LoveAndGelato
Dear LoveAndGelato,
DeleteThis definitely has happened to me!! My family used to have basketball tickets to our local team, and I was never invited to go with them. My brothers, and dad would go together and I wouldn't even be invited! I don't blame my family too much for that because I had never expressed my interest in basketball before, but it was still frustrating!

Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI thought your blog post was really interesting, especially when you talked about having "the best of both worlds". I can kind of relate because for a while when I was a little bit younger, me and my cousin were basically the only girls in our family under the age of 18 (and my family is really big, with my mom having 3 brothers and all). However, I feel like hanging out with my boy cousins added more to who I am than altered me, just because of what my personality and hobbies are.
How do you think your life would have changed of you were the older sibling and your brothers were younger than you?
Thanks,
Soccer4life4415
Hi Soccer4life4415,
ReplyDeleteI love your question! For me, having older brothers was the biggest part because they "older sibling bullied me." I feel like I'd be a lot more of a sensitive person if I had younger siblings. I imagine I would be like my oldest brother, which I think would just be different. He was born in a time where parents sheltered their kids more so I think that I would also have been raised differently by my parents. Thanks for the great question!

Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI like how you talked about the pros and cons of being the youngest. If you could choose would you still be the youngest?
Sincerely,
ILikeFood
Hi ILikeFood,
DeleteI think when I was younger, I definitely would not choose to be the youngest. As the years have gone by and I've matured more and gotten to understand my brothers more, I think I would stay the youngest. It's played a huge role in making me who I am, and I don't think I'd change that.
From,
DancingTurtlesOnMars
DancingTurtlesOnMars, I like how you told the story of when you were little and played soccer with your brothers. I can relate because I’m also the youngest sibling in my family. What is the worst and best part about being the young needy child?
ReplyDelete-Pemma
Hi Pemma?,
DeleteI think what was hardest for me was if my brothers were being mean, I didn't feel like I could tell my parents. When I was younger, I used to and they'd always call me a tattletale and it actually really affected me. I stopped telling my mom and dad and kind of just fought back, and it's actually really made a big impact on me!

Dear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to all the things you said about being the youngest child but I have never had a brother. I just have one older sister. I really liked how in your writing you showed that you really cared about your brothers too. Do you think your brothers are the only reason you got into soccer? Do you think if you didn't have your brothers you would have played soccer?
from,
Isabella Johnson
Dear Isabella Johnson,
DeleteThank you for the great question! I got into soccer mostly from my brothers, but when I was in 1st grade my friends and I were on a rec soccer team together. That lasted for a few years, and one of the main reasons I did that was because of my friends. Quite honestly, I do think I still would've been interested in soccer, but maybe not as much? A lot of things influenced me to play soccer and yeah! Haha I'm sorry if that's not a great answer to your question.

Hi DancingTurtlesOnMars,
ReplyDeleteI really like that you included some of you experiences of having older brothers. What do you think you would be like if you didn't have older brothers? Would you be a completely different person than you are today?
From, thecowfellover
Hi thecowfellover,
ReplyDeleteI think my humor actually would really be affected. If you meet me ever, you'd know that I'm a super sarcastic person. I have a really unique sense of humor, and I definitely got that from my family. Thanks for reading!

DancingTurtlesOnMars-
ReplyDeleteI really liked your examples from your life I found them really interesting, but the earring story is sad. I have an older sister, and she'd always say how she wanted a younger brother instead of me. Did your brothers ever wish you were a boy?
-Slim Celery
ReplyDeleteDear DancingTurtlesOnMars,
I really liked the way you relatably described the "passing down" from your older brothers. Have you gotten passed down something you liked?
Sincerely,
fashion_i_like_love_i_hate
Dear DancingTurtelsonmars,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you shared personal specific story. Do you still play soccer with your brothers.
Dear fashion_i_like_love_i_hate,
ReplyDeleteQuite honestly, the only thing I ever really liked was the bunk beds my brothers gave me when they got too big for them. I don't have the anymore, but I loved them then.

Dear ball-in like a sphere is my life dawg,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! I do sometimes still play soccer with them, but not usually. We have all gotten so busy that we don't usually, but sometimes in the summer we will for fun.
