Time Management, Procrastination, and Homework

By Katie Wei
Time management is very important when you get higher and higher in your grade levels. The older you get, the harder the work becomes, and the more work you get.  When we were younger, without a care in the world, and frolicking in the grass, we didn't care about homework. We did it when we came home, then went out to play. It was great! Until now.
After school, we all have activities to go to. Dance, soccer, piano, you name it. When you procrastinate after these long, exhausting activities, it all just drags, and then the next thing you know, you're doing all your homework at midnight. This is when time management comes in. Your agenda is like your best friend. You should always write down when you have time to do homework, and when you don't. It is also helpful to write down what obligations you have, like your after school activities.
I remember one day, I was feeling lazy. So I procrastinated. That was a very stupid thing to do on my part. First, I got in trouble when I told my parents that I had to do all of my homework on sunday night. It was nice during the weekend when I didn't have to do anything at all, but when sunday night came, I regretted everything I had done.
Overall, just be smart with this, and don't do things at the last minute. If you have a long period of time to do a project, be smart and space things out. Unlike what I did.

  2. Hi Katie,
I really liked your post because you gave real examples of how procrastination can hurt you. But what are some strategies for avoiding procrastination (besides using your agenda)?
    Sincerely,

  3. Hi Lauren,
some ways to avoid procrastinating, are just simply to do them right away or at least the first minute you can. Thats what I do a lot.

  4. Hey Katie,
Great Piece! I really liked how you explained your personal experience with procrastination, and how it is suddenly becoming a big deal. When do you think we suddenly started procrastinating?

    1. Hi Alex,
I think we start procrastinating when we have something that we really do not want to do. We think we have so much time to do it and then we end up having to do it at the last minute.

  5. Hi Katie,

I like how you wrote about a topic which everyone experiences, don't we all procrastinate sometimes? When was the first time that you procrastinated?

Good job on your blog post!

    1. Hi Matt,
I totally agree with you! I think I started procrastinating when I started middle school. It is so easy to procrastinate, and then you always regret it in the end.

  6. Hey Katie
Nice work! I agree with everything you are saying. It is all so important to learn as a middle school student, so when we are in high school this doesn't happen to us. Sometimes I leave my homework until sunday, and I regret it instantly. YOur right about the agenda, it is the best!

  7. Hey Katie,
Wise words. I remember the first couple weeks of 6th grade I procrastinated a lot. Agenda is most definitely your best friend. Its gets more and more important every year to use the agenda and to make sure you write down your homework. When on sunday do you do your homework? Cool post

  9. Hey Katie!
I loved your post. I felt like I could really relate to it! Do you ever find your parents always asking you about your homework? How does that affect the way you plan out your workload?
